New Technology
- Ball Camera
- Want your vacation pix to be really unique? This throwable ball camera takes 360 degree panoramic views that you can then download to your computer through a USB cable.
- Samsung Rugby
- Samsung's new smartphone bills itself as nearly indestructable. So this reviewer took them up on it. The results? *crunch*
Legal News
- Facebook Own the Word "Book"?
- As we noted back in March, people unknowingly agree to all sorts of things in end-user agreements. Facebook is taking advantage of that in their new agreement by having you agree that they own the word "book".
- Even the Industry Isn't Safe
- Even the music industry giants like Sony are fair game for the likes of RIAA, it seems. Recently, Sony ponied up $8M to the Allman Brothers, Cheap Trick and others for music sold online.
- Computer Code Isn't Property
- In a very interesting and potentially groundbreaking precident, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that computer code is not property and therefore cannot be stolen. This has potential repurcussions throughout technology, including digital music, art, software and just about every aspect of modern technological life.
- The Fake Prada's on the Other Foot
- In a turnabout situation, the Chinese, who are known for their 'knock-offs' of popular products, are suing Apple for allegedly pirating their work.
- What's Good for the Goose
- And in another turnabout situation, the city of Hollywood, Florida, is using robocalls to fight against "businesses" that post those "median signs".
Security News
- So the FBI's Going to Be Gaming?
- It seems that there's evidence that terrorist groups are using the online chat capabilities of Xbox and other game systems to plan their upcoming attacks. If this is so, expect the government to start bugging those as they do with the phone systems and internet.
- Segments of the Internet to go Black in July
- Last year, the FBI stepped up to the plate to guarantee that hundreds of thousands of internet users did not lose their access due to a huge hacking problem. Well, the FBI's going to pull that support this July, so you'd better make sure you're not affected or your connection may go dark.
- Sunglasses and a Mustache No Longer Cut It
- James Bond is crying in his martini (shaken, not stirred). The CIA is noting that stepped up border security using biometrics threatens to blow its' agents cover.
Time Moves On
- Glued to their Phones
- A new study confirms what parents have long suspected -- teens text an average of 60 times per day. If the teens are my nieces and nephews, that number's probably pretty low.
- I Have my Doubts about #2
- The Facebook Generation will determine, of course, some of what products will fade away. Here's eight of them that some say will be left in the dust.
- New Technology Benefits the Classroom
- It's nothing new that technology gets incorporated into the classroom. Some schools, however, are using iPads to help with their special needs students.
The PostScript
- Wisconsin Do Not Call List
- It won't stop the annoying political solicitions, but if you get your cell and landline numbers in before March 1st, you'll be on by April 1st. Since there's no charge for this and no penalty to doing it more than once, do it once a year... on New Year's!
- Support Our Military
- Locate the email address for your service person with help from the US Armed Forces News Service. And the popular America Supports You site run by the Department of Defense is now Our Military.
- The Den
- What does The ComputerGuy do when he's not on the show with Bob? He blogs about politics and life. Also, catch up with him on Facebook
